The Mercury 40ELPT is a 40hp Jet four-stroke outboard with remote mechanical controls, electric start, power trim and tilt, and a 15" short shaft, weighing 276 lbs. Built for jon boats, river boats and other boats running shallow, rocky water. As an authorized Mercury dealer, Boat Specialists sells it new with the full Mercury 3-year factory warranty, after our factory-qualified technicians test-run it.
Mercury Jet outboards replace the gearcase with a jet pump that sits even with the bottom of the boat, so you can run shallow water where propeller-driven outboards can't go. A stainless steel impeller stands up to sand, shells and other debris for long-term durability.

$335 Dealer Engine Prep - Our factory-qualified technicians perform a full test run of your new outboard by unpacking it and connecting it to the rigging, fuel, battery, and a diagnostic computer. We run the motor up to operating temperature and test every function to make sure your new motor is working just as it should. The manufacturer's required inspection checklist is completed and submitted to the manufacturer to validate the warranty.

Do I need a short or long shaft?
Measure your transom from the top edge straight down to the bottom of the hull: about 15" calls for a short shaft, 20" for a long shaft, 25" for an extra-long shaft, and 30" for an ultra-long shaft.
